Who is Willie?

Anyone was hard pressed to find my grandmother without her camera in hand. If her hands were sans camera, it had been replaced with a journaling pen or paint brush. Grandmomma was the family’s official paparazzi. My mother clicked close behind, hence, there was little wonder when I carried forward a passion of my matriarchs.

Grandmom left us in 2016. I loved her and learned much from her. I miss our conversations on photography and art; light and shapes; depths and contours. I miss watching her bright, sparkly eyes absorb her surroundings like a bird atop a roof - near enough to engage multiple senses, but detached to allow space for consideration in repose. And I recall the intricacies she subtly taught me through stories and poetry - real or composed - regarding honesty towards myself and paths to fulfillment.

Thus, after 20 years in the corporate world, I walked away to pursue my first zeal and rekindle my quality of life. I dedicate this love and adventure to my artful mentor and grandmother, Willie Frances, as all avenues of my trade lead back to her.
